Great Plains Zoo

Location: Sioux FallsThe Great Plains Zoo features over 850 animals from around the world. Our 45-acre park features animals in simulated natural habitats, such as the Asian Cat Habitat, Bear Canyon and our new African Savannah. Our popular Children’s Zoo gives visitors an up close and personal chance to interact with the animals.

Old Courthouse Museum

Location: Sioux FallsMake time for history at the Old Courthouse Museum. This beautifully-restored 1800s quartzite building has three floors of regional history exhibits. The Museum store includes unique and affordable Dakota-made gifts for the whole family.

Outdoor Campus

Mount Rushmore

Outdoor Campus

Location: Rapid CityGame, Fish and Parks is creating an outdoor education facility and regional office in Rapid City. The purpose of the facility is to provide outdoor education experiences to youth and adults throughout western South Dakota and to serve as the headquarters for the Wildlife Division staff of the western South Dakota region.

Akta Lakota Museum

Location: PierreConstructed in 1968, the building currently home to the Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center once served as the school on St. Joseph’s campus. Roughly 10 years after its construction, students shifted from dormitories to family living units.

Crazy Horse Memorial

Location: CusterSculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear officially started Crazy Horse Memorial June 3, 1948. The Memorial’s mission is to honor the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.
